In the spring of 2012, members of the Raleigh Fire Department, both active and retired, as well as friends and family, donated money to purchase Old Engine 1. The 1961 American LaFrance 900 Series pumper returned home in May 2012.
Initial maintenance and mechanical repairs were provided by the Raleigh Fire Department Fleet Services staff. The engine made its first public appearance in the Centennial Celebration apparatus parade on June 16.
The names of these donors will be inscribed on a permanent plaque to be displayed with the engine.
