Raleigh Fire Museum members are assisted by fire department personnel, as they
receive a 1961 American LaFrance 900 Series pumper that once served the city. The engine was purchased from a private owner,
using money donated by active and retired Raleigh Fire Department members. It was placed in
service as Engine 1 in May 1961, as Engine 8 in 1974, and likely removed from service
in 1982. It was sold to the Stem Fire Department in Granville County, and subsequently to a private owner.
Jan Chamblee photographs from May 10 and May 11, plus side-by-side shots from Dean Narron, and older photos from Tim Henshaw (2009) and Lee Wilson (1990).
